SUMMARY: The Communications Coordinator will primarily focus on supporting YWCA Metropolitan Chicago’s programs across three divisions by developing and executing marketing and communications strategies that amplify program initiatives, engage key stakeholders, and demonstrate community impact (90%). This role will work closely with program teams to create compelling content, manage digital and traditional communications, and ensure consistent messaging across all outreach efforts. Additionally, the Communications Coordinator will provide limited support for enterprise-level communications (10%), contributing to broader brand awareness and organizational messaging.
COLLABORATES WITH: Strategic Engagement team, Program leadership and direct service staff, IT and Data personnel, and outside vendors.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program-Focused Marketing & Communications
· Develop and implement communications strategies that enhance visibility and engagement for YWCA programs
· Collaborate with program teams to create tailored content, including success stories, participant spotlights, and program updates
· Manage digital and print content to support program outreach, recruitment, and awareness efforts
· Assist in developing promotional materials for events, workshops, and community engagement initiatives
· Maintain and update program-related content across social media, email campaigns, and the website
· Support storytelling efforts that highlight program impact and align with fundraising and donor engagement strategies
Event & Campaign Support:
· Assist in the promotion and execution of organizational events, including fundraising initiatives, awareness campaigns, and community engagement activities.
· Collaborate with events staff and vendors to create materials that support sponsorship and donor outreach efforts.
Enterprise Communications Support
· Assist in executing organization-wide messaging, including press releases, brand storytelling, and major campaign support.
· Contribute to enterprise-level digital and social media initiatives as needed.
· Ensure consistency in branding and voice across all communication channels.
Other Duties as Assigned:
· Provide general support to the Strategic Engagement and Business Development teams as needed.
· Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in nonprofit marketing and communications.
NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in administrative and program meetings, as appropriate.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Other duties outside of the responsibilities of the position may be assigned, whether for a project, special needs task, or other assignment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· 1-2 years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
· Experience with content creation, social media management, digital marketing, or community engagement is a plus.
· Spanish language proficiency, including the ability to translate, proofread, and edit written materials for clarity and accuracy, is a plus.
· Experience creating, editing, and managing multimedia content, including video, photography, and graphic design.
· Proficiency in using graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) to support marketing and communications efforts.
· Experience editing and managing web-based content using Squarespace, HTML, or other Content Management Systems (CMS).

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The primary work environment includes dedicated desk space within a downtown Chicago office. This position may also require travel to other YWCA offices or off-site locations for special events. The noise level is usually moderate. Movement requirements include walking, stooping, or kneeling. There may be a need to reach, lift, or move objects, such as packages, supplies, and computers. Normal (or corrected) vision range; The ability to see color and to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols are necessary to the work, which may require close viewing. Occasionally they may need to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Communication needs include seeing, hearing, and speaking. While in the office, there will be periods of sitting, holding a telephone, and using computers. Reasonable accommodation may be made for an incumbent to meet the essential responsibilities of the position.
WORK SCHEDULE: HYBRID – Work from home 2 days a week, in the office 3 days a week. Normal working hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. This position may require work on some evenings and weekends. The schedule can vary depending on the needs of the agency.
