Community Engagement Coordinator

Department: Early Childhood Services
Location: Addison, IL

POSITION TITLE: Community Engagement Coordinator STATUS: Exempt, FT GRADE:

DEPT: Early Childhood Services SALARY: $47,00K-$53,500K

REPORTS TO: Director of Community Engagement SUPERVISES: Referral & Recruitment Specialists


SUMMARY: The Community Engagement Coordinator educates families on early childhood education program options, provides referrals, and navigates families to community resources needed to promote family wellbeing and optimal early education. Educates community partners on YWCA programming, builds pathways to support family needs with community resources. This position also supports and implements recruitment & retention strategies on behalf of YWCA programs.


COLLABORATES WITH: Community Engagement Specialists, Child Care Providers, Youth and Family Potential Team, Community Members and Parents


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of early childhood systems and health / human service organizations that impact families.
  • Foster strong relationships with family service agencies to build a pathway for child and family success throughout the YWCA Metropolitan footprint.
  • Liaison bridging childcare, educational systems, and family service agencies inclusive of those that support children experiencing homelessness and children with special needs.
  • Developing an alliance between early education programs, childcare providers, and families
  • Implement and support recruitment and retention strategies to support outreach in YWCA programs.
  • Provide training and technical assistance for new family child care businesses
  • Monitor grant deliverables, enter data and invoices in a timely manner
  • Maintain community calendar and event registration
  • Attend and participate in community events served by early childhood programs to promote recruitment and enrollment in existing programs.
  • May be the intermediately at additional community meetings, collaborations and events as required.
  • Complete a basic CSD training within 2 months of hire


NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in family services, community, and program meetings, as appropriate. Must be Gateways Registry Member within 2 months of employment.


OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Other duties outside of the responsibilities of the position may be assigned, whether for a project, special needs task or other assignment.


  • QUALIFICATIONS: Effective spoken, written and communication skills are necessary including communication with community partners and parents are necessary. A general knowledge of community resources is desirable. Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from various education, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds
  • Thrives in an environment in which collaboration, partnership, and empowerment are the key cultural elements

Professional Training Required: A minimum of fifteen (15) hours of professional training related to Early Childhood and/or to the responsibilities of the position is required annually.

*Note: A Bilingual Parent Community Engagement Coordinator who works with a foreign language speaking community must demonstrate cultural competency with that community and fluency in both English and the community’s language (oral and written).


EDUCATION REQUIRED: Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following related fields (ECE, Child Development, Child Psychology/Behavioral Sciences, Family Consumer Sciences, Social Work, Elementary Education, Child Welfare, Family Services); OR Associate Degree with minimum of two (2) years-experience in the ECE field preferred. Bilingual preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment includes offices; members and visitors may visit with children. The noise level is usually moderate. Movement requirements include walking, stooping or kneeling. There may be a need to reach, lift or move objects, such as packages, supplies and computers. Normal (or corrected) vision range; ability to see color and to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols are necessary to the work, which may require close viewing. Occasionally may need to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Communication needs include seeing, hearing and speaking. While in the office, there will be periods of sitting, holding a telephone and using computers. Reasonable accommodations may be made for an incumbent to meet the essential responsibilities of the position.


WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. This position may require work on some evenings and weekends. Schedule can vary depending on the needs of the agency.
