Nutrition Education Specialist

COMPELLING OPPORTUNITY FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO FULFILL ON THEIR PURPOSE, MAKE A MEANINGFUL DIFFERENCE FOR OTHERS, AND ADVANCE THEIR CAREER! The YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, a 21st Century, business-savvy, social enterprise committed to “Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women,” is seeking a NUTRITION EDUCATION SPECIALIST for the YWCA Early Childhood Services - Child and Adult Care Food Program, based at our location at 6600 S. Cottage Grove Avenue, Chicago, IL 60637. This non-exempt, part-time position reports to the Program Coordinator.

Overall Purpose: Nutrition Education Specialist performs site visits to child care programs and conducts reviews according to USDA, Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the YWCA Tummy program guidelines under the supervision of the Program Coordinator.

Chosen candidates will be trained to provide information, support and technical assistance to providers in regards to recordkeeping, meal service procedures, software use and other program elements.

 ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete site visits with participating providers as assigned.
  • Report to program office weekly to perform essential duties.
  • Provide exceptional client experience and services.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to providers as necessary during site visits.
  • Participate in nutrition and staff trainings.
  • Attend regularly occurring meetings and trainings to enhance performance.
  • Travel within 50-mile radius to service Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake and Will counties.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desired, not required.
  • High school diploma; AA in a related field preferred
  • Proficient oral and written skills
  • Proficient with technology use i.e., laptops, smartphones
  • Available to work a flexible schedule (Mon-Sun 6am-9pm; varying days and times)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; bilingual abilities a plus
  • Available to attend regularly scheduled meetings at the YWCA sites
  • Must have your own reliable vehicle and proof of auto insurance
  • Able to travel within Chicago and suburban areas within a 50-mile radius
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to thrive in an environment in which collaboration, partnership and empowerment are the key cultural elements
