STEM Technology Instructor

COMPELLING OPPORTUNITY FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO FULFILL ON THEIR PURPOSE, MAKE A MEANINGFUL DIFFERENCE FOR OTHERS, AND ADVANCE THEIR CAREER! The YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, a 21st Century, business-savvy, social enterprise committed to “Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women,” is seeking a STEM Technology Instructor based at our location at 6600 S. Cottage Grove, Chicago, IL 60637 and/or 3517 W. Arthington in Chicago, IL 60624. This exempt, full-time position reports to the Executive Director, Early Learning Innovation and Youth Programming.

OVERALL PURPOSE:  Deliver a robust “STEM” curriculum, programs including hands-on field trips. The primary responsibilities for the After School Program Instructor includes promotion, implementation and evaluation of “STEM” based programs for youth that builds interest, confidence and competency as well as strengthens life skills.   

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  •  Preparation of program learning activities and instructional materials
  •  Compliance with state and local policies and procedures including but not limited to submission of progress report to local schools  
  •  Delivery of instruction, including being prepared for and meeting programs at scheduled times  
  •  Fully understand and internalize lesson content and concepts related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and/or Math (STEM).
  •  Passion for science, technology, engineering, arts and math highly desired.
  •  Maintain behavioral expectations for students in keeping with established methods and procedures
  •  Assist students of varying ability with robust STEM projects
  •  Assist in the distribution of publications and additional information used to promote youth programs as offered

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree or student working towards a degree required 
  • Experience using technology in teaching, training, or tutoring of youth ages 9-14 required
  • Training or experience in social emotional learning, executive function, desired
  • Classroom teaching experience highly desired
  • Available to teach within schools, YWCA Laura Parks and Mildred Francis Center and/or YWCA Julian Grace Innovation and Technology Institute.
  • Available to teach during the day, in the evening and/or on the weekends.
  • Experience working in a school setting OR working with groups of 15-25 people preferred
