STEM Technology After School Instructor

COMPELLING OPPORTUNITY FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO FULFILL ON THEIR PURPOSE, MAKE A MEANINGFUL DIFFERENCE FOR OTHERS, AND ADVANCE THEIR CAREER! The YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, a 21st Century, business-savvy, social enterprise committed to “Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women,” is seeking a STEM TECHNOLOGY AFTER SCHOOL INSTRUCTOR based at our location at 6600 S. Cottage Grove, Chicago, IL 60637 and/or 3517 W. Arthington in Chicago, IL 60624. This exempt, full-time position reports to the Executive Director, Early Learning Innovation and Youth Programming.

OVERALL PURPOSE:  Deliver a robust “STEAM” curriculum, programs including hands-on field trips. The primary responsibilities for the After School Program Instructor includes promotion, implementation and evaluation of “STEAM” based programs for youth that builds interest, confidence and competency as well as strengthens life skills.  

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Fully understand and internalize lesson content and concepts related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and/or Math (STEAM).
  • Passion for science, technology, engineering, arts and math highly desired.
  • Supervise, instruct, plan lessons, and lead activities for students enrolled in the STEAM or Youth After School programs across the city of Chicago.
  • Write and implement 4-5 lessons per week in subjects of our choosing, where you can share your skills and talents with students
  • Review, plan and deliver YWCA STEAM curriculum
  • Maintain behavioral expectations for students in keeping with established methods and procedures
  • Assist students of varying ability with robust STEAM projects
  • Assist in the distribution of publications and additional information used to promote YOUTH programs as offered

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school Diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree or student working towards a degree preferred  
  • Classroom teaching experience highly desired
  • Experience working with school age children strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a school setting OR working with groups of 15-25 people preferred
