HEALTH AND SAFETY SPECIALIST

YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, a 21st Century, business-savvy, social enterprise committed to “Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women,” is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist, reporting directly to  the Quality & Training Coordinator in the Childcare Resource & Referral Services program. The person in this non-exempt, full-time position will be based at our Patterson and McDaniel Family Center located at 2055 W. Army Trail Road, Addison, IL 60101. Salary is commensurate with experience.

POSITION PURPOSE:  To assist in overseeing and directing the planning, organizing and implementation of health & safety support services for license-exempt childcare providers who receive payment from the IDHS Child Care Assistance Program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule and conduct on-site visits to license-exempt childcare providers to ensure that required health & safety trainings have been completed and implemented
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with license-exempt childcare providers
  • Promote, educate, and train providers on relevant health & safety topics
  • Identify health & safety violations that may be present in the childcare environment
  • Correct and/or coach providers to ensure program is compliant with all relevant health & safety requirements
  • Perform key statistical data functions to include correspondence preparation, report completion and information distribution
  • Act as a community liaison for the agency

 KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in a relevant field, such as child development, education, sociology, project management
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends
  • Regular access to a reliable motor vehicle, along with possession of a valid driver’s license and auto insurance coverage
  • Able to pass a criminal background check
  • Strong interpersonal communication and collaborative skills
  • Demonstrated competency in working effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Thrives in an environment in which collaboration, partnership, and empowerment are key cultural elements
  • Coachable with an openness and eagerness to learn new things
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office and Outlook
