Professional Development Specialist

Department: Early Childhood Services
Location: Addison, IL

COMPELLING OPPORTUNITY FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO FULFILL ON THEIR PURPOSE, MAKE A MEANINGFUL DIFFERENCE FOR OTHERS, AND ADVANCE THEIR CAREER! The YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, a 21st Century, business-savvy, social enterprise committed to “Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women,” is seeking an EARLY HEAD START PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST. This is a full time, exempt position, reporting directly to the Early Head Start Operations/QA Supervisor in Addison.

Overall Purpose: To ensure compliance and alignment with all NAEYC Accreditation Standards, ExceleRate Illinois, DCFS and other applicable licensing standards.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor teaching staff compliance with Head Start Performance Standards related to classroom curriculum and early learning best practices
  • Mentor staff, using research-based coaching strategies aligned with each individual’s performance goals, curriculum fidelity
  • Utilize a planned Language Approach, teacher-child interaction assessment data, as well as child assessment data
  • Work with partner child care providers and staff to establish plans and procedures to ensure the safety and security of children
  • Work with Teacher coaches to evaluate the need of each site and devise a training strategy
  • Coordinate relevant trainings needed and recommend to Family Advocate Supervisor
  • Develop and monitor professional development plans and progress of trainees
  • Develop, coordinate and present training and development programs for all employees
  • Coordinate training and Technical assistance efforts with the Child Care Resource and Referrals’ Quality team

 Key Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Early Childhood or related field
  • Minimum of 4 years’ of early childhood professional experience
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Creative Curriculum, CLASS, Head Start, FCCERS, ITERS, and ExceleRate Illinois Quality measures
  • Ability to pass a health examination and a criminal background check
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently, while prioritizing and managing multiple assignments simultaneously as needed
  • Ability to travel locally and to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Excellent presentation skills incorporating all strategies for all learning areas
