Coordinator, Advocacy & Crisis Intervention Services

POSITION TITLE: Coordinator, Advocacy & Crisis Intervention Services STATUS: Exempt, FT GRADE: 4

REPORTS TO: Manager, Advocacy & Crisis Intervention Services SUPERVISES: Advocates,

Interns and Volunteers SALARY: $57,000

SUMMARY: In partnership with Manager, Advocacy & Crisis Intervention Services, accountable for coordinating services performed by advocates, interns and volunteers who are first responders to sexual violence survivors as well as community violence survivors. Provides trauma-informed and victim-centered response within a variety of settings, inclusive of hospitals, police stations/districts, and other community locations. Supports operations of 24-hour hotline and general advocacy by offering sexual and/or community violence crisis counseling and holistic service planning. A successful candidate for this position will excel by displaying creative and flexible problem-solving skills and effectively internal/external partnerships to meet the needs of survivors.

COLLABORATES WITH: Builds strong internal relationships with the Safety and Wellness Leadership and teams and YWCA Leadership and operations teams. Fosters influential external partnerships with a range of community organizations, local coalitions and advisory councils representing mental health, and human services.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct Services: Provides assistance to sexual violence/community violence and significant others with priority given to the safety of survivors. Makes or arranges direct contact with survivors and significant others experiencing sexual violence/community violence to provide support, referral, and comprehensive information regarding survivor's rights, available options, community resources and the legal system. Maintains ongoing contact with survivors and significant others in order to provide information. Facilitate arrangements for survivors’ participation at court hearings, and assists in their preparation as witnesses. Manage and oversees scheduling of staff to ensure adequate service coverage. Foster strong relationships with local medical and law enforcement systems to ensure utilization of medical advocacy response and troubleshoot barriers/concerns. Actively supports completion of Victim Compensation applications to ensure a successful application. Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with diverse community stakeholders to seeks information and engaged in activities to understand community aspirations from a survivors’ perspective.

Program Operation: Implements and monitor program goals in coordination with agency work plans and program deliverables in accordance with internal/external standards, policies and procedures. Oversee the collection of outputs and outcome measures and maintain required statistic, records and timesheets in compliance with funder guidelines. Incorporate racial justice framework into department goals, outcomes and deliverable. Ensure effective recruitment and retention of highly qualified staff members and volunteers. Meet regularly with assigned staff, to understand personal aspiration and self-care, inclusive of reviewing sick time use, time off requests, assignment of responsibilities, and clarification of job expectations, aligning job performance with individual and team goals, and professional development opportunities. Immediately report supervision issues to the Program Manager. Maintain documentation of meetings with staff. Establish and maintain effective relationships with professionals, public and private institutions, and units of government and community agencies to achieve an integrated and consistent network. Advise the Manager, Advocacy & Crisis Intervention Services on specific program and staff related issues.

Contribute to the development and management of program budgets and monitor program-based financial stability. Promote integration of program services to ensure cross marketing and utilization of programs/services to survivors and significant others experiencing sexual violence and/or community violence. Promote the work of the organization and program by leveraging and optimizing social media and other community engagement activities.

Talent Management & Development: Responsible for ensuring recruitment, supervision, development, evaluation and the retention of highly qualified staff and volunteers, including an investment in the their professional development. Foster a social enterprise mindset and culture of engagement.

Resource Development: The Coordinator, Advocacy & Crisis Intervention may collaborate with Strategic Engagement Team as needed to provide strong program evaluation statistics and persuasive narrative; strategic measurements for grant proposals and individual donor development; and industry expertise when considering new initiatives.

Professional Development: Complete twelve hour per year of continuing education as set by YWCA or other agencies/funders.

NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in organizational, division program meetings and special projects as appropriate.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Other duties outside of the responsibilities of the position may be assigned, whether for a project, special needs task or other assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to complete the ICASA 40-hour sexual assault crisis intervention training within 90 days of employment start date. Certifications in ICASA and sexual violence related trainings, as well as community violence related trainings. Basic knowledge of interpersonal trauma and survivor characteristics. Minimum of one to three years of supervisory experience in one of the following areas: crisis intervention, youth services and/or educational/medical programming. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Strong assessment, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Highly effective interpersonal, relationship-building, written/verbal communication and presentation skills. The ability to work collaboratively or independently, depending on the situation. Availability to provide backup 24/7 on-call, rotating schedule. Thrives in an environment in which collaboration, partnership, and empowerment are the keys cultural elements. Intermediate skill level in MS Office suite and/or other productivity platforms.

EDUCATION REQUIRED: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position requires working in office where survivors of trauma and assault, and their family member are present. The Coordinator must effectively handle unexpected crisis. The essential functions of the position requires operation of computers and other office equipment and movement between offices. The noise level is usually moderate. Movement requirements including walking, stooping or kneeling. There may be a need to reach or to lift objects, such as packages or supplies. Communication needs include seeing, hearing and speaking. While in the office, there will be periods of sitting, holding a telephone and using computers. Travel to location within the Chicago metropolitan area or other areas of Illinois as needed. WORK SCHEDULE: Variable driven by a rotating on-call schedule. This position may require work during evenings and weekends. Schedule can vary depending on the needs of the agency.
